All and all, establishing a theoretical orientation as a counselor is important when working with clients in the mental health profession. This is a common knowledge in the field because any well-grounded professional needs a base by which to operate. There are 11 approaches that therapist uses in counseling. The 11 approaches are as follow: Psychoanalytic therapy, Adlerian Therapy, Experiential therapy, Person-Center therapy, Gestalt therapy, BT, CBT, Choice theory, Feminist, Postmodern and Family System. With that being said, Person- Center Therapy is the most common theory that is use in counseling today. The clients should be responsible for improving his or her life, not the counselor. The client should decide for himself or herself about the what is rights and wrong and how to fix the issues. However, the counselor is more like a friend then a counselor but is still ethical and professional during the entire session. Henceforth, Rogers later developed a “Self theory” in which describes how the client views himself/ herself, and how therapy can help change their view and or future. As previously stated, Person-Center also focus on Growth- Promoting Climate. The Growth- Promoting Climate consist of three core conditions which includes “conditions of congruence, unconditional positive regards, and accurate empathic understanding” which was discuss previously in the paper.
