The Maya Civilization ranged from Yucatan to Honduras. Then in a instant, a civilization of fifteen million people imploded. The answer to the question “What caused this?” is climate change. This means droughts, this hypothesis is old. Studies of a lake near where the civilization once stood show that it didn’t reflect a “pure climate signal”. According to researchers, there were three long droughts. The droughts timing matched downturns in the Maya culture. The Mayas were susceptible to long droughts. They also were skilled astronomers. The drought had a few recurrences.
