CLR Teaching and Learning Book Report As I have read Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching and Learning, by Sharroky Hollie, I now see how I can use this information to make connections within my classroom. This book has opened my eyes to see that a deficient mindset will create barriers in my future classroom. Having a CLR mindset will allow me to work with all students and their many different backgrounds. While I do not see my mindset as deficient, I did see that within these chapters I need to be more aware of the difference that could be in my classroom. Along with this, I will need to be aware of the deficient mindset that I can use in my teaching. Culturally connecting academics with open-mindedness will give me an advantage in teaching the curriculum and connecting with my classroom. I can demonstrate this by creating a culturally rich reading environment that is inclusive of all. Socially, I can also connect and allow for student connections as I use CLR in the classroom. Linguistically, I need to understand who my students are, where they come from, and whether they are underserved. Seeing all these aspects will allow me to have a mindset to know how to connect with the students. Also, I will give the students a connection by giving them visuals within their academic learning for connections. Through these many CLR concepts of academic literacy and language, I will be able to see more openly and connect with my students on a level that will give them success in the classroom. CLR is the mindset that will help us to move forward in our learning and give the students the mindset to be lifelong
