They began developing a new utility vehicle that was more powerful and efficient and boasted a 48-volt electric motor. The vehicle, called the DS, was a popular product for Club Car over the next two decades. Other vehicles followed and in 1993, Club Car was taken public in the stock market. Soon the company was acquired by Ingersoll-Rand, a New-Jersey based conglomerate. Attorney Montague Miller was placed as the new president and CEO, and he had previous experience working with the company. In his legal career, he had provided counsel to the E-Z-GO executives who bought the company from Johns Manville. He then began working for Club Car in 1990.
