With descriptions of their mundane school grounds, unsightly home lives, and the rough and tough appearance of the boys, Joshua Davis paints vivid portraits of the main characters of his novel. While thumbing through the novel, I could feel the fear associated with the constant threat of deportation, and the anxiety of wondering if their families were going to be there when they returned home. When it was revealed that the boys had succeeded in winning the competition, I felt a physical wave of happiness and relief wash over me. This kind imagery and ability to translate emotion is essential in telling a story such as this, because a person truly needs to be able to place themselves in the shoes of those boys to be able to fully appreciate
I feel as though my countless hours of binge-watching science fiction TV shows has finally paid off. I am now in the position to create a team instead of cringe at the groups that do not act as a team and are unsuccessful in the mission. I now have the power to ensure that the three people have the ability to make smart, moral decisions. With that being said, I would take my father, my aunt, and the UT Chancellor’s Honors Program’s own, Joshua Dobbs. I believe each of the people I have chosen have what it takes to face new challenges, and even new planets.
Everyone needs help in their life at some point in time. A person who helps another out is a mentor. A mentor tries to do all they can to help others out. In Edward Bloor’s novel Tangerine, Luis Cruz is the mentor because he gives advice, aids, and is a positive figure towards Paul. First, being the mentor, gives advice to Paul.
Living on the streets of Juarez is not an easy life. Manny Bustos is a homeless boy that’s 14 and lives on the streets of Mexico. Manny's parents abandoned him when he was a baby. Manny is a teenage boy who wants to cross the border of Mexico to the United States. One character trait that I would give Manny is determined because he never stopped following the sergeant.

Have you ever just been so fed up with life and just wanted to give up so that you won't have to deal with your problems anymore? Life just seems to be overwhelming. In the book Lessons Learned, I can connect and relate to the main character. I see similar hardships that the character and I have been through. In the novel, Keyshia goes through several problems such as not seeing eye to eye with her mother, being abandoned by her mom throughout her whole 15 years and not knowing her dad until the age 16, and her younger brother Mike being with a dangerous girl.
Encouragement is a gift used by those who want others to see God's truth and follow it correctly; this could also involve correction of some and strengthening of others; those who are gifted in encouragement often make the person involved feel helped and healed (building church). Giving
“The Hero’s Journey” is term for a narrative style that was identified by scholar Joseph Campbell. The narrative pattern would depict a character’s heroic journey, and categorize the character’s experiences into three large sections: departure, which contained the hero’s call to adventure, fulfillment, which consisted of the hero’s initiation, trials, and transformation, and finally the return. The novel The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan investigates the relationship and actions of four Chinese women and their daughters. The character Lindo Jong’s youth in China exemplifies the three part heroic journey in how she leaves the familiar aspects in her life, faces trials in the home of her betrothed, ..... Departure:
Without ever uttering a single word, Charley Edwards possibly had the greatest positive and negative effect on Paul in the story Paul’s Case. Charley Edwards is a teen performer at the local theater, and Paul’s love interest. In one paragraph, Charley made Paul the happiest boy in the world; but in the next Paul became even more alone than he had ever been. How can the man, who never verbalizes a word, have such a profound and life altering impact on Paul?
Fruitvale Station is based on a true story that occurred in Oakland, California in 2009. Oscar Grant III was unarmed and lying face down on a subway platform. He was shot by a white Bay Area Rapid Transit Police Officer. This movie is about what we can imagine when we cast our gaze across the longstanding divides in this segregated American society. Oscar Grant was a real 22 - year old man.
Initiative is also a great trait to have. I use this trait by taking charge before others. I do this in my vocational class while working with my kindergarten children. I jump right in and do what I am supposed to without asking questions. My teacher evaluated this skill and said that initiative is significantly built into my personality.

Forgiveness is the action or process of forgiving or being forgiven. (Hawkins, 1994, P. 206) My personal understanding of the parable ‘The Prodigal Son” is that it portrays the importance of reasoning and forgiveness. The main characters in the parable are two sons and a betrayed father. The father remains constant throughout the parable, although he has being betrayed by his younger son.
