Coffee Pods Business Plan

Type of Pods We Collect
The coffee pod industry is dominated by the K Cup coffee pod that has been made famous by the use of a Keurig instant coffee brewer. The problem with these K Cup coffee pods is that they are not compostable and are incredibly difficult to recycle due to the mixture of plastic and aluminum materials that are used. We have decided to focus our reverse logistics model around the coffee pods that are compostable in industrial composting facilities. The majority of the pods we will collect use the Purpod 100 coffee pod. This pod is fully compostable in industrial composting facilities. We will also collect the Betterbrew Eco Coffee Pod because it also can be composted in these facilities.

We will also collect all of Cameron’s products because they use the Betterbrew Eco Coffee Pod. The Cameron’s products are also sold at the stores where we plan to set up return bins.

Return Sites We Will Service
Our reverse logistics model proposition relies heavily on the creation of return sites where consumers can return their used coffee pods. This aggregation of used pods will help reduce transportation costs associated with the collection of compostable pods. We have decided to focus on five grocery stores within the greater Waco area that sell the coffee pods we plan to collect. The stores we plan to collect from are listed below.
• HEB- 1821 S Valley Mills Dr, Waco TX
• HEB- 9100 Woodway Dr, Woodway TX
• Walmart- 4320 Franklin Avenue, Waco TX
• Walmart- 733 Sun Valley Blvd, Hewitt TX
• Walmart- 600 Hewitt Dr, Hewitt TX

We then used data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics to find the average gas prices in Texas ($2.29) and the average miles per gallon passenger vehicles get in terms of fuel mileage (21MPG). We calculated that the total cost for gasoline would be $2.15 to go to all of our drop off areas. We also calculated how much an emergency trip to each individual location in case one of the bins filled up before our scheduled pick up. The fuel costs would be $0.48 to make a trip to the first site, $1.53 to make a trip to the second site, $1.81 to make a trip to the third site, $2.03 to make a trip to the fourth stop, and $1.11 to make a trip to the fifth
