Based on R.S case SOAP notes, other therapies such as Cognitive remediation therapy (CRT). Can be considered with the treatment of schizophrenia. According to the article written by Chien, Leung, Yeung, & Wong, (2013). Cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT) and Cognitive Remediation Therapy (CRT) can be used for treating R.S. The cognitive therapy is made of cognitive behavioral and cognitive remediation therapy. Cognitive remediation began in 1990s. enhances the patient’s executive function and social cognition through restructuring or reorganization information. The main focus of CRT is on enhancement of neurocognition and social cognition. CRT is used by most therapist for cognitive rehabilitation for schizophrenic patients. One meta-analysis of 26 controlled trials (involving around 1,150 patients) stated that the use of cognitive remediation can drastically improve cognitive performance with the (effect size, 0.41), psychosocial functioning (effect size, 0.36), and psychotic symptoms (effect size, 0.28) in people with schizophrenia in a very short period of time say about a year. The use of CRT is likely to be more successful he diagnosis of Schizophrenia is disabling and it causes a disruption in the patient’s cognition, emotional, occupational and psychosocial functioning. Using both psychosocial interventions as an adjunct to medications for patients with schizophrenia can reduce their psychotic symptoms, prevent relapse and improve long-term outcomes, remission, and progression of the illness. The use of either Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and cognitive remediation therapy to treat patients with schizophrenia have showed some evidence of efficacy on relapse prevention and symptom control. CBT is one of the most commonly used therapy to improve the patient’s cognitive and social functioning.
