Cold War and Arms Race

What all took place in the cold war and the arm race? The cold war was nations trying to get to the moon and making the first atomic bomb. The US won, we were able to make the first atomic bomb and to put the first man on the moon. The atomic bomb was called “Manhattan Project” it was a secret project for developing the atomic bomb. We beat Russia and Germany in developing the bomb. The arm race was against Britain, US, Japan, and the Soviet Union. The arm race was officially told to the Soviet Union on July 24, 1945. We had Britain on our side helping to develop the atomic bomb. The code name for the project for creating the bomb was called “Manhattan Project”. On October 4, 1957, a Soviet R-7 intercontinental ballistic missile launched Sputnik was the first satellite to orbit in the earth orbit. The Soviets Union were one step ahead, launching the first man into space in April 1961. After the Soviet Union sent Alan Shepard to become the first American man in space, President John F. Kennedy made the a speech claim that the U.S. would land a man on the moon by the end of the decade. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin of NASA’s Apollo 11 mission, became the first man to set foot on the moon. The Red Scare is everyone was pardoned that anyone they know was cops. We had problems with russia in the cold war. There was communist activities took place in the U.S. House of Representatives, everyone was in fear. There was investigations for Leaders of agencies. The FBI and its longtime director, J. Edgar Hoover, aided many of the legislative investigations of communist activities.
