“How did the United States utilize the policy of containment during the Cold War?”

When the Cold War began, Harry Truman, the current president, made it his duty to protect and aid the United States and its allies. A prominent proclamation of those duties was found in the Truman Doctrine. The Truman Doctrine was a document that discussed the United States and how we would handle the Cold War. There was a lot of focus on the idea of containment. The United States agreed to protect other democratic countries with military and political support against communist attacks. The United States utilized the policy of containment in the Cold War through the Berlin Airlift, Marshall Plan, and the North Atlantic Policy.
The Berlin Airlift was a prime example of how the United States aided its allies during the Cold War. The Soviet's attempts to block off the support provided by the U.S. to West Berlin quickly toppled when resources were delivered by plane to the people living there. Through the Marshall Plan, the U. S. made an agreement to do whatever we could to assist in rebuilding the economy of the world. Any action taken was to be in the assistance of other countries, not causing problems. “Any government that is willing to assist in the task of recovery will find full cooperation, I am sure, on the part of the United States government” (Document C) Our resources would not only be used on ourselves but to help rebuild struggling countries. This plan had a major focus on Europe and helped them rebuild after the war because of the lasting effects it had. The plan itself brought about a lot of change and focus on industrialization.
