Colin Powell a Visionary Unethical Leader? In the recent history of the United States there are few leaders that most Americans would agree are visionary leader, former Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Colin Powell would be one that most would agree fits the mold. Secretary Powell displayed visionary leadership during his time at the Department of State, displaying transformational leadership through inspirational motivation, and with his use and understanding of team dynamics. However, just as Secretary Powell was a visionary leader, he found himself in a situation, when he stumbled into an ethical trap and displayed unethical leadership due to his lack of a Healthy Skepticism regarding his trust in the United States Intelligence Community. Furthermore, I have also faced situations where I employed the creator role from team dynamics to propel forward a solution to a complex problem, while at the same time utilizing inspirational motivation to solidify the solution’s success. In similar fashion to Secretary Powell I have also encountered a situation in which my lack of Healthy Skepticism and my reliance on personal loyalty drove me into unethical leadership.
