A Time to Remember It was in kindergarten that my mind was first opened to reading and writing. I remembered walking in, not having the slightest clue on how I was going to walk out of this place being able to read and write. When I first learned the basic words, my mind was blown. I suddenly wanted to read anything I could get my hands on! But honestly I could only read the basic titles of most kid books, but I felt so accomplished. From what I remember in my kindergarten days was that I had the coolest most caring, and kind teacher by the name of Mrs. Green. She had long dark hair with a small amount of freckles covering her cheeks. Her classroom was bright yellow with a huge colorful rug that covered more than half of the room. From what I remember as a kid writing wasn’t one of my strong suits it was something I lacked. As we progressed into writing, it was a life changing experience for my little brain. I learned that I could now express myself in written words. We began mixing our reading rotation in with writing. After a student would read to the class we would take that information and then summarize what we read into words. Doing these book reports started off easy then began to get harder the more we wrote. Which wasn’t a good thing for me. I constantly struggled with memorizing the information I gathered then putting it onto paper. It is something I struggle with to this day. But as a kid my teacher was big help in teaching me different methods on how to remember what I read. I remember her telling me to think of the key things I find not only interesting, but also picture those events in my head, and rehearse those events as I went along. To this vary day I use those various strategies when reading, its something ill carry with me
