Since Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton ran against each other in the 2008 primaries, I have been fascinated by politics. Growing up I learned which groups to identify with as an individual, whether it be in politics or religion. My parents provided me with the freedom to form my own ideas based on personal research. Discussions were common at the dinner table and claims were expected to be supported or refuted with credible evidence. My father, many consider a philosopher in his own right, taught me at a young age of the balance of laws and morals in ethics. My mother made sure my sisters and I were tolerant of our radical conservative family members. Surprised during the 2008 election who my family members were voting for, I yearned to understand their viewpoint. In fourth grade, I realized that the secret to compromise is understanding. Studying government ensures the smooth running of political institutions, policy making, and relations to compromise in a highly competitive world. Wanting to continue to be a public servant and become a politician, American studies is a must, but I am also interested in International Relations and Comparative Politics. I visited Washington D.C. two years ago, and instantly knew I wanted to go to school in such an intellectually challenging setting. Studying abroad is another aspect I am interested in. I desire to face global problems and understand international relations in order to help humanity as a whole. While studying, finding an internship to start my role in politics is a goal. Hopefully, I will obtain an internship to apply the knowledge I learn and further my public
