Throughout United States history there have been several influential Presidents. Many modern day Presidents such as Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagen and Barack Obama, have made remarkable impacts on society. They have worked and created programs to positively affect our nation. Some of these actions include the Family and Medical Leave Act, Violence Against Women Act, minimum wage increase, Tax Reform Act of 1986, Environmental Protection Agency, deregulation, SDI, Affordable Care Act, and the Dont Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010. These are just a few of numerous actions/programs these men enacted. His actions, programs and style of governing brought monumental changes in several areas of American policy and way of life. Clintons birthday is August 19, 1946. He was originally named William Jefferson Blythe III, but a traffic accident took his fathers life three months after he was born. Therefore, his mother married Roger Clinton, whose last name he adopted in his senior year of high school. He graduated from Georgetown University and gained his law degree at Yale University. He set foot in politics in Arkansas and in 1976 was elected Attorney General and was elected Governor in 1978. In the Presidential Election of 1992, Clinton defeated former President George Bush and H. Ross Perot (Class Notes). When his presidency began the Cold War had just ended. He was the first President for the baby-boomer generation. He created many economic policies and one big one was focusing on reducing the federal deficit where he eventually balanced the budget. He approved the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993. This act raised taxes on high income individuals which aided the budget surplus. Clinton also assisted the welfare problem in the U.S. by signing the Personal Opportunity Reconciliation Act, which implemented working requirements and time limits for welfare recipients.
