Thomas Jefferson has also done and changed the country during his presidency. One commodity changed of the country, and possibly the largest, was Thomas Jefferson’s Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase was an outstanding change to the country, this is because it nearly doubled the size of the United States. This also encouraged independence and agrarianism because with the immense amount of new land supposedly every man could have a small farm. The purchase allowed men to become more independent because they could grow their own crop and be self sustaining.
Jefferson Davis altered when he became the President of the Confederate States of America because he was the one who led the rebellion to a very brutal war in American history. He also was the one who started the war because he could have ordered the confederate troops to not fire on Fort Sumter, but he lets the soldiers fire on it and is the cause of the war and leads to many American deaths. He could have saved a lot of American lives by making a treaty, but that obviously did not happen.
Franklin Roosevelt was a very influential and important president in American history who had an immense impact on the American economy and social policy during the 1930’s and 40’s and throughout the future of America, he also shared some ideas with the author John Steinbeck. He drove America out of the great depression and through the second world war.
President Andrew Jackson had a strong view on the American economy. He mistrusted many policies and in his time in office drastically changed them to suit his views and ideals. After winning the 1828 election against John Quincy Adams and the 1832 election against Henry Clay, Jackson’s time in office was unquestioned. In his administration, Jackson’s economic policies led to the Panic of 1837 and transformed the American banking system. Jackson’s view on economy lead him to instate acts that significantly transformed the system of American economy such as the abolition of the second Bank of the United States.
William Henry Harrison was the ninth president to serve in office. He was also the oldest president elected at the time and the first to die in office as well. Harrison was born into a well-connected family, and having his father and brother both to serve an important role in Congress, Harrison was bound to be a part of the “planter aristocracy” (American). Surprisingly, William originally went to college studying classics and medicines. William changed career paths and took up the military services before taking a role in the government (Bio).
Bayard says that he can question Mr. Jefferson’s genuine actions. He believes that if Jefferson were to be voted in that the sustainability of the country would come into question, “There would be really cause to fear that the government would not survive the course of moral and political experiments to which it would be subjected to in the hands of Mr. Jefferson.” (80) So he questions whether Jefferson would be harmful or helpful to society. He comes to the conclusion that this gives reason to favor Burr, however still believes that he could possibly prefer Jefferson.
I would like to know how politics were like back then and what were the economical struggles were at the time. I feel like Grover Cleveland would be a good person during that time period for this, he was the only democratic in an republican dominate political system he was unique in his own way compared to presidents today. He had a reputation for being being honest, destroying corruption, and supporting government reform. During a time when the new progressives like Theodore Roosevelt were rising to power he kept to the old ways of the constitution. He was considered a Bourbon Democrat that believed in limited government and opposed special interest groups.
The economy changed as well, due to the revolution, because of the war period there was respect for debt, taxes and agriculture. The direction for the development of economic growth was still a quarrel between the North and the South. A good example for the Northern view point on economic growth is Alexander Hamilton. Alexander advocated for the development of an economy based on industry with a central focus on urban growth. However, Anti-Federalists or, the Southern viewpoint, thought it best to have an agrarian society that contained large slave populations.
Bill Clinton was also an American politician who had served as the 42nd President of the United States. He had served his time from 1993 to 2001 and throughout his time in office, he had both aided yet negatively impacted the United States, which can be seen through many acts and bills he had signed, both domestic and foreign. Domestic accomplishments of President Clinton firstly included cutting the tax, similar to what Reagan had done. Clinton had signed the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, cutting taxes for millions of low-income families. He had also cut tax for almost 100% of small businesses and raised the tax on the wealthiest taxpayers.
Thomas Jefferson was first term as president was full of successes and failures. Thomas always promised the country a wise and frugal government. In 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt became the president of the United State after President Herbert Hoover. The Great Depression was also at its height because President Hoover believed that the crash was just the temporary recession that people must pass through, and he refused to drag the federal government in stabilizing prices, controlling business and fixing the currency. Many experts, including Hoover, thought that there was no need for federal government intervention. ("Herbert Hoover on) As a result, when the time came for Roosevelt’s Presidency, the public had already been suffering for a long time.
