Many people say that christianity is just a religion, but for me it has never been just a religion, it has always been a intimate relationship with God. Luckily as the son of a pastor, I was taught to not view my faith as a religion but instead to see it as a relationship. Since I was born, I’ve had the privilege of going to church every Sunday. As soon as I was able to truly understand the significance of church it had become my biggest influence throughout life and still is today. Church is a place where I find purpose, an atmosphere that generates motivation to reach my full potential, and somewhere I can make a difference. Church is the environment that has helped establish my personality and continues to form my personal and leadership skills. I can thank my church for most of my personal growth, because in reality church has always been a place where I gain a sense of social responsibility. In my generation, it is the norm to drink excessively, to do drugs, and to party. Although I feel the pressure to do the same, I do my best to protect my values and discern that my different culture is what has led me to possess important knowledge and experiences. Reminding myself of all the hard work and sacrifices it took to teach the kids and preach to the youth, I reflect and see how great of an impact these numerous experiences have made in my life and how they have formed my personality. By good fortune, I have not let myself fall into temptation with the lifestyle that make up the “fun teenage life”.
