Experimenting With Life

Growing up, my parents have always told me to become a doctor or a lawyer, but these occupations never sparked interest. I know my parents mean the best for me, but they did not take into account what I enjoyed doing or what I wanted to do. Since my parents never graduated high school, I knew they had high hopes for me to succeed. I felt pressured to become a doctor because I felt as though I have failed my parents if I did not become one. I told myself while lying in bed one day, “Being a doctor is not too bad; at least mom and dad would be proud of me.” I completely ignored what I wanted to do and had my mind set on satisfying my parent’s desires.

As I grew up, the stress and pressure I had to endure became unbearable. I would constantly question myself and the future ahead of me. These questions were starting to affect my academics, which did not please my parents. How was a kid in elementary school supposed to cope with so much stress? I was clueless. …show more content…

It was a hot day, everyone was sweating, and the teacher was lecturing. As I was doing a problem on the board, I realized that once one understands the concept, the problem is easy. Not only was I good at math, but also the numbers in math fit together and there will always be a definite answer to any number of problems one does. After this realization, my insatiable hunger for math only grew as time progressed. So in middle school, I joined a mathematics program called Mathcounts which strives to engage middle school students in fun, challenging problems. I also started helping my friends with math homework during lunch of after school. This was the turning point; I acknowledged this skill I possessed and decided to pursue
