Many people say home is where the heart is. As for me, home is where my family is. At a pivotal age in life, I was seemingly “forced” to pack up my things and move across an entire state away from my family. What seemed to be a very casual occurrence for many children at my age, was a travesty to me. As an only child, my cousins had filled the void of having siblings; they had essentially became my siblings, making the move very hard for me. I was able to get through this tough move with the help of God, my family, and jumping into new hobbies. Ever since the beginning of my childhood, I have been able to take a dark situation and find the light within it. Doing so during the move was very difficult. I started diving into things that I enjoy like, sports, animals, and nature. For instance, I began competitive gymnastics again, I started a dog walking business in my new neighborhood, and I spent much more time outside. I started many of these things with the support of my parents. Because of their support, it was easier for me to jump into these new things. Although they were always there pushing me further, I began to develop my strongly independent character. By taking part in all of these hobbies, I was able to find the light again and bring myself out of the rut I was once in.
Through this setback I have learned more about myself than I could have imagined. I have learned the importance of working with others to accomplish a goal. Many life occurrences depend on teamwork, much like a family depends on each member to be a working part. I have also learned the pleasures that I find most fulfilling and that are able to help me cope through tough situations.
