Art is everything. Everything you see, touch, taste, smell, and hear can be interpreted as art, from the most basic understanding of an oil painting to the crunching noise of leaves under a boot. Art can be anywhere, and anything. Think of the intense curvatures of a building, the electrifying anticipation of an orchestra tuning, the meticulous stitching on your most beloved article of clothing, the careful and reverent way a child gazes upon a breath-taking sculpture towering over their being. I prefer to take art as it is, and that it is the basic reason of why humans are unique in their existence. Humans understand that art is power, and art is everything in their daily lives. It is impossible to live the way society does without artists, which is why I want to be one. Artists can change the world. My time at The New School would develop my skills to the highest degree that is allowed, and I knew this once I entered the realm of Parsons School of Design. I subconsciously became aware that the people surrounding me knew the fact stated before: that art is truly everything. He didn’t know it, but he changed my perspective about what I wanted for my future and how I fit into the community of The New School itself. My prospective major was casually mentioned in conversation: Illustration. I instantaneously listened in. Ever since I was able to grip a pencil, paintbrush, or piece of chalk, I was drawing. When I was younger, I would map out house plans on my driveway with chalk and embellish with designs of furniture, all to scale. I would create birthday cards with intricate rendering, banners, and usually some form of flowers sketched somewhere. My mind has an endless, overflowing stream of possible content for concepts, which ironically makes it harder to choose one
