While I was growing up and something did not go my way, my mother would always say “everything happens for a reason.” While sometimes this saying seems hard to believe and often hard to rationalize, it does seem to be true more often than not. This philosophy has been my mantra and number one belief for as long as I can remember. It is uplifting and can influence me to think positively, even when nothing seems to be working out the way I want it to. This belief has been tested over the summer before ninth grade at my dance studio. I had danced with one of my very close friends for over 7 years when she suddenly was forced to move and switch studios. This friend was one of the many reasons I loved dance because of how close we were and how we would always have an entertaining time together. When I received the news that she was moving, I became very pessimistic and was not looking forward to dancing without her. Once the new dance year started over summer, I received my invitation with my new dances for the new season. I realized I had a duet with a girl whose name I had never heard of. This only started once I begun to act and feel more positive about the situation. I realized that life is what you make it, and this new girl was obviously put into my life for a reason. I began to think that the friend I lost opened up my eyes to a great new friend. As the season continued, we grew closer and closer. Once competitions started, we even combined hotel rooms so that we could be together and share good times. A situation that I was originally so negative about turned out to be a blessing because I gained a great friend. I still keep in touch with my friend who moved, and I wish I could see her more, but I am grateful for the new experiences and friend that I would not have had if the negative scenario did not occur
