In the summer of 2012, my sister and I joined the Saltillo High dance team. For Elizabeth and I, our first pair of shoes were ballet slippers, but our fellow team members had little to no knowledge of dance. Elizabeth and I felt a strong responsibility to use our talents to transform fourteen softball players into dancers. We learned very quickly the cost of being a leader- sacrifice. Elizabeth and I found ourselves searching for ways to improve the team, choreographing routines, and privately instructing stragglers.
I love to learn about history and other countries in World Studies. Above all I love to learn more about Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit, and the Bible through Christian Studies. I have found that being a leader means more often being a servant and volunteer. I don’t get much acknowledgment for the extra hours I spend every practice prepping or taking down the equipment. That's not the reason I do what I do. To put it simply, band taught me to care. Band taught me to care about my family at home, my family at school, and the random freshman I see struggling in the hallway.
Although I do not have a position in leadership yet, I believe that leadership does not only apply to large-scale events, but group work and responsibility in oneself's own actions as well. To me, leadership does not mean that someone can boss the entire group around, but to create a positive relationship with peers. Being able to build trust among your associates is the fundamental base of a relationship with the people that will be part of your life, which is also an essential part of leadership. I decided to join STEM, which allowed me to understand my potential with leadership. During group projects, we would make decisions together as a group, instead of separate individuals arguing over what to do.

As a student in highschool, I contribute to numerous teams. I participate in cheerleading for varsity football and basketball. For cheerleading we all work together and create cheers and dances that we perform at games. We also are assigned to compose cheers by ourselves to teach the whole squad. I have been a cheerleader for three years now.
Acquiring leadership skills along with a strong character and the sense to serve others is vital. A leader should be resourceful, dependable, selfless, and a good problem solver. I have led in many ways- inside and outside of school. Last year as a tenth grader, I was class secretary for Class Council.

My parents, simple and honest human beings, have high expectations of me, wishing that I too, like them, grew up to be an honorable person. Irrespective of the hurdles, to push ahead with all one’s might is the only way to succeed. Living this philosophy, my father, a genuine rags to riches story, altered my life, leading by example and encouraging me to follow the path of righteousness.
I have always had a burning passion for dance since I was a young girl. My first time on a stage, I was immediately hooked. The overpowering feeling of a crowd of people watching me as I do what I love, is a feeling I have always admired. Dance has developed my character and personality in many different ways. I have been taught responsibility, discipline, integrity and much more.
Leading can be time-consuming but will always be worth it as you grow and you help others grow as well. You will be able to see the differences you make whether they be little or small and being able to help others will make you happier to inspire others to do the same. Leading is all about changing.
