Research Paper Is a thirty thousand dollar debt worth a small paper with a person’s name on it? As society progresses people are getting more lazy, and willing to settle for minimum wage jobs. Many of the individuals that choose to work in these minimum wage jobs as a life time occupation are so settled they even want to raise the minimum wage to $15.00 an hour. However, other people may argue that a college degree is worth the years of hard work, and the debt that follows it. Post education has been recognized since the G.I Bill of rights were created because a college degree was viewed as a life goal after their service to their country. One of the most important reason to earn a college degree is happiness. There are people that will say they do not need to go to college to be happy; although this may be true a college degree in a desired study will have a better outcome. College allows people to work in a field of study they love and enjoy every day. Amy Salazar supports this claim in her article “The Value of a College Degree for Foster Care Alumni: Comparisons with General Population Samples” when she says “higher education is related to a wide range of quality-of-life measures in the general population, including higher job satisfaction, increased earning power, higher personal and professional mobility, better health for individuals and their children.” (Salazar). Happiness can simply be job satisfaction or living a healthy and stress free life. People want to go to a secure job with excellent benefits that they can enjoy. For example, when people are called for a career position in a company; the person with the degree will get to discuss their salary. Because the person has proven their determination by obtaining a college degree they have earned credibility. Employers are willing to agree to pay a large sum for an individual that displays a positive reputation for a company. Holly Dalby supports this in her publication “How Does a College Degree Help Your Career?” when she says “Having a college degree helps to make you more appealing when you’re looking for a job and opens up opportunities that might otherwise be closed to you.” (Dalby). Reputation is offered to those that prove their perseverance by obtaining a college degree.
