The Jessip Family has been through many obstacles in the recent past and although it affected each member of the family tremendously, it has manifested in different ways for each of them. The client system consists of Antonio, Terry, and their three children. Terry is twenty-three years old and of Italian and German descent. I have known Ezra since I began working at Medomak Valley High School two years ago and it has been a joy to see him develop his plan for his pursuits to higher education. After the sudden loss of my oldest brother in 2011, my life changed in the blink of an eye. While trying to overcome this heartbreaking experience was one of the most challenging things ever faced with, his death soon turned into a true inspiration to me. You always used to think that there were monsters in your closet or under your bed when growing up. Your parents told you that there was no such thing as monsters, and that there was nothing to be scared of. But sadly, there are monsters among us. They are just hiding behind the mask of everyday people. These monsters are serial killers.
One of the biggest difficulties during this time was my brother was very sick when he was born, and he needed surgery to fix a problem with his stomach, and she was taking him back and forth from the doctor frequently plus my sister was only 18 months old. My mom stated, “I don’t know how I got through it, “while discussing this stage of her life but never felt isolated in any way. I was born later which a five year age gap between me and my brother. My mom told me, “After Eileen and John were born, I felt like I was going to be pregnant very year because they were born so close together. It was my biggest fear I would have all these kids, and get lost, but thankfully this did not happen.”
Kaakinen et al. (2015) states that approaching family as a client is centered on each individual family members well-being that create the sum of a family. An example of this approach is well demonstrated by my family’s primary care provider (PCP). My mother, father, sister, and I all routinely see the same primary care provider. Near the end of 2014 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, and in early 2015 my father was diagnosed with colon cancer.
