I found out that my grandmother died of breast cancer when I was quite young. I never fully understood what breast cancer or any type of cancer was. I never wanted to read anything she wrote about her breast cancer because I thought it was too sad until this year when I thought of becoming an oncologist. I realized that I should learn more about cancer, so why not start with something I could possible get. My first question was what is breast cancer and the causes of it? Then it came across my mind of how to people and doctors detect if you have it? Breast cancer is a tumor that appears in the breast. Some types of breast cancer are caused by hormones. Secondary breast cancer can spread to different parts of the body while primary breast cancer starts in the breast (“Breast 1). Breast cancer is a very serious topic and health issue. The most frequently diagnosed cancer and one of the leading causes of death for women is in fact breast cancer (Lafranconi 2). Not a lot of people know that there is more than one type of breast cancer. They usually think that some who has breast cancer just have breast cancer but they don’t. There is more than one type of breast cancer. The most occurring type is ductal carcinoma, which is wear the tumor occurs in the milk ducts of a woman's breast. You also could possibly have lobular carcinoma breast cancer, inflammatory, tubular, mucinous, paget’s disease, medullary and many more. There are also other classifications for breast cancer. It could be situ which means “in place” or invasive, which means it could spread. (Krag and Turkington 5). Everyone diagnosed with breast cancer is also diagnosed with a stage.
