Learning is a lifelong process, regardless how it is accomplished; reading, internet surfing, social gatherings where one acquires new skills or knowledge. As a society we are conditioned to put limitations upon ourselves and education is one of those limitations. One’s beliefs, regarding education, are many, especially when it involves adults returning back to school. Certain barriers such as; integrating school life into one’s everyday life, fear of technology and fear of classroom integration just to name a few.
Trying to find time to go attend class and study can sometimes be a full time job, let alone integrating it into one’s everyday life. For most, the problem that arises with this particular barrier is not knowing how to fit this new entity into one’s everyday living schedule. One has to fuse full time parenting, work

To accommodate some adult learners the Rhode Island Counsel on Post Secondary Education has developed the “College Unbound” program as an option for adult learners returning back to school. This program offers students to be out one evening per week, in addition to a weekly meeting with an academic advisor and it supports students in submitting portfolios to earn credit for prior life experiences (http://www.nebhe.org/thejournal/to-knock-down-barriers-for-returning-adult-learners-rhode-island-tries-something-new/). Life experiences are part of the lifelong learning process and to be able to get special credit for those experiences prove to be essential in the College Unbound program. This alternative way of learning is modern in its approach. Traditional classroom learning can be a deterrent to an adult learner when trying to decide whether or not to return back to school.
