When one thinks of topics of conversation, abortion often finds itself in the “DO NOT DISCUSS” category. It tends to be a hypersensitive subject for most everyone; so when it is mentioned, people do not forget what is stated or who declared it. Most often, people associate abortion with healthcare clinics similar to those like Planned Parenthood (PP). People such as Robert Dear, a recent shooter who opened fire in a Planned Parenthood clinic, believe abortion is the only service they provide. When in reality they devote as little as 3% of their services to abortion. (Planned Parenthood Staff). They provide low cost pap tests and breast exams. Approximately, PP provides 400,000 Pap tests and nearly 500,000 breast exams each year (Planned Parenthood Staff). This is most important for obvious reasons. Detecting cancer early is the difference between life and death. PP provides this for many men and women across America. For Maggie (age 32), receiving regular, low-cost OB-GYN exams saved her and recently enabled her to bear her first child. “They found abnormal cells on my cervix, removed them early enough and saved me from cervical cancer.” Maggie stated. Maggie is not the only case like this. PP was able to detect cervical cancer when Tiffany (age 41), could no longer afford to receive check-ups from “regular” doctor. Ultimately, Planned Parenthood saved her life (Pearson) Colleen’s life was also saved by Planned Parenthood. She had given her breasts a self-exam when she found a lump. “I didn’t have enough savings to go to a private doctor, so I figured I would just ignore the lump.” (Planned Parenthood Staff) Colleen’s cancer would have progressed if she had not remembered that Planned Parenthood helps to provide poverty stricken women with health care. Women, men, teenagers, and educators all benefit from the resources Planned Parenthood provides, and they do supply many services such as contraceptives, cancer screenings, STD testing, and a broad, diverse amount of information that thoroughly covers topics related to sex education. Senate is not only defunding the small amount of abortion services PP provides, but they are defunding many other much needed healthcare services. Abortion may not please everyone, but the United States of America is becoming benighted by defunding Planned
