During the Colonial time period, people established many great colonies founded on principles of religious and societal freedom. These were a people who were greatly persecuted in England for their religious beliefs and were looking for a way out. “The first colony was founded at Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607. Many of the people who settled in the New World came to escape religious persecution. The Pilgrims, founders of Plymouth, Massachusetts, arrived in 1620. In both Virginia and Massachusetts, the colonists flourished with some assistance from Native Americans” (First Colony). Many died during the times of hardships and struggles. Those that survived through struggles and hardships were apart of forming America. “The colonists slowly developed their own customs and lifestyles. Eventually they began to feel that this new land was now their true home” (Life). The Natives American also known as the first nation had a big impact on the colonies. They played a big role in teaching them how to survive. Their faith also plays a big role. They had that faith in them that these struggles will pass along and their time to shine will come. Tobacco was new crop that changed their life. They made money by trading with other countries. Many families in the colonies were mostly farmers. The whole family worked in the field all day long. They counted on faith and prayer all the time to get them through the struggles. “They relied heavily on their faith and spent much time in prayer. In time, the colonists learned how to live in the wilderness through trial and error and with the help of an English speaking warrior named Squanto and the Wampanoag Chief, Massasoit” (Faith).
