In the 1500s, much land had yet to be discovered. This was a big deal because it meant anyone could colonize the land. You just had to get to it first. The land had a lot of new things like new resources, new trade routes, and new people that lived there. Being social was very important because it could be the difference between winning or losing a war or having a dying or thriving country.
