Global Influence of Imperialism Imperialism is interpreted in two contradictory viewpoints. From one perspective, Imperialism was development or progression. From another angle, Imperialism was an inhumane method to colonize. As a result of Imperialism, following outcomes appeared: extreme discrimination, nationalism, and exchange of cultures. These effects were especially visible in India, Africa, and the Great Britain. In consequence of Imperialism, discrimination was at its extreme. Both racial and gender discrimination not only led to inhumane actions but it also created a social barrier between countries. Racial discrimination was especially intense in Africa. After the Berlin Congress, European countries took all of Africa except Liberia and Ethiopia. Europeans believed that they are superior, and that they had the rights to treat Africans however they want. Thus, Europeans objectified and enslaved Africans for their own benefits. Some major negative consequences were racism and loss of freedom as stated in previous paragraphs. In addition, numerous Indians had to change their traditional practices such as religious practices. In contrary, there were also some positive consequences. Adopting the Western culture, India improved their infrastructure and sanitation. Building road, dams, and other transportation methods, it boosted India’s economy. Most significantly, British spread improved education and new governmental ideas. Through cultural exchange, English became not only an adopted language in India but also a global language. Furthermore, other countries began to adopt Western country’s form of government. Even though the conflict between India and Britain looked grim, there were moments that were constructive for
