1492 – Columbus Discovers the New World. Columbus landed on the Caribbean Islands in 1492. Columbus quickly noticed the exotic crops and decided to trade with the Native Americans. The Columbian Exchange is the result of this, which introduced exotic crops that were easy and fast to grow like potatoes and corn. These fast growing and abundant crops helped increase the population in the European countries. The increase of food and news of unexplored lands inspired many young men to explore.
