“Excerpts from Christopher Columbus’s Journal of his voyage.”
An observation is an analysis someone may get from analyzing someone or something closely in order to get information. There were many different observations that Columbus came across that influenced his evident desire to impose his authority over the natives. The three major observations identified by Columbus that influenced Columbus to conquer them were religion, the native’s ingenuity, and being poor. Just by a simple observation you can find so much out about a person/group of people. As did Christopher Columbus while trying to find the best route to East Asia.
In Particular, Columbus believed that he could convert the natives into their religion because they didn’t have a religion. While observing the natives Columbus noticed how friendly the Native Americans were he knew he could take advantage. Columbus stated “As I saw that they were very friendly to us, and perceived that they could be much more easily converted to our holy faith by gentle means than force.” Meaning he wouldn’t have to force them to convert to their religion because they didn’t have one. As soon as Columbus and his men gave the natives the items that their religion require they immediately became attached to Columbus and his men.

He should have because not only would he have influenced their lives in a negative way there would have been many positives. Just by the simple observation Columbus figured out that he could in fact conquer the Native Americans. The natives gave Columbus and his men many reasons why they should have conquered them.
