After five centuries of sailing into new territories, Christopher Columbus has been known for his wonders followed by his disasters and disappointments(34). Throughout history schools and colleges have taught the importance of Christopher Columbus and how he has impacted the Western Society. Columbus impacted the development of the American Colonies because of his devoted patrons, his vital role in discovery, and his involvement in the exchange of diseases and goods.

He landed upon an island he would name San Salvador. As he continued to explore, Columbus would name several other islands as well. After his initial discovery, Columbus composed a letter to Luis de Santangel that described this beautiful new land unlike anything he had seen before. A land packed with fascinating new people, extraordinary landscapes, exotic new foods and plants, along with endless potential. In this letter Columbus writes, “In it are marvelous pine groves, and there are very large tracts of cultivable lands, and there is honey, and there are birds of many kinds and fruits in great diversity”(36). This letter was later published and sent throughout Spain. This letter sparked a wonder in the hearts of the people and inspired thousands to venture out to the new land. What he did not anticipate was to set foot on the new world, the Bahama islands and to meet strange people that were naked. The natives, also known as Taino Indian Tribe, welcomed Columbus with food, water, gifts and open arms while some of them were hiding from the strange people with their strange, yet shiny, items that they have on. Years passed since the initial voyage and Columbus had been sailing to and back from the island Espanola and with every voyage he would bring back something to the monarchs as a souvenir or a gift for the King and Queen of Spain. As for the Taino Tribe they were not so lucky, as they hoped to be and for reasons because when Columbus first came to their island he took certain amount of their people with him, by force, back to Spain and since then they have been keeping their distances and hoping that they do not come back ever again. Sadly their hopes were shattered as Columbus came back with his crew, however, Columbus was unaware that he also brought with him something that would kill the Taino Tribe. Columbus and his crew brought was the diseases, such as smallpox, Measles, Influenza, Bubonic plague, Chickenpox, and many other kinds of disease, that they had back in Spain and even though they are somewhat immune to the some of the diseases, the Taino Tribe were
