“The economy determines how a society produces, distributes and consumes good and services. In politics individuals and groups acquire and exercise power and authority and make decisions.” (Benokraitis, 2017) There are several types of global economic systems, but there are only two major systems and they are capitalism and socialism. Most of the economies do not settle on one system, they use a mixture of both. “Capitalism is an economic system based on private ownership of property and competition in producing and selling goods and services.” (Benokraitis, 2017) Within capitalism is four minor characteristics: private ownership of the means of production, market competition, profit, and investment. Communism is where people are to receive resources as they are needed, and not by how hard they work. This form of economic system is used in several different countries, but not solely. Most countries use several different economic systems to form one. Welfare capitalism is the economic system that takes private ownership, market competition and government regulations and put them altogether to make one system. Welfare capitalism is also known as state capitalism. One last capitalism is crony capitalism which is based upon the relationships between the government and businesses. There are several factors that affect voting, but some of the important factors are age, sex, social class and race. “In every presidential election since 1996, women and across all racial/ ethnic groups have voted at higher rates than men.” (Benokraitis, 2017) Over the years there have been differences between men and women voting that can not really be explained. But they do believe that women are more likely to vote if they feel that their social services are being threatened. Now age plays a huge factor in who votes and who doesn’t as one has to be 18 years old to register to vote and can vote. Many young people do not register to vote, as I am 24 and still haven’t registered. More older adults are likely to vote as they are more involved in politics, as young people are not really informed about politics. Social class has an impact on voting behaviors. People that attain higher education levels are more likely to vote, as they are more informed about what is going in politics. Barack Obama had a significant impact on the rise of African American voters, as he was the first African American president. In 2008 and 2012, African Americans vote in record breaking numbers mostly 45 years and older. So, this just shows that it all depends who is running for office, is how many people vote and do not vote. They make their own decision on who to vote
