1a. Police brutality 1b. We always hear about police brutality on the news, where police either physically abuse or kill an innocent person. This is because some police abuse their power or are undertrained. 2.
Dahanna is a 25-year old Mescalero Apache Native American male who lived on a reservation in New Mexico. He suffers from depression and he has a substance abuse problem. He feels as though the only why to ease his pain is to drink. Many youth his age will go off in the mountain and get drunk and high. He even lost his best friend due to them getting high.
The support group I am interested in using for my Support Group Paper is a support group called Narcotics Anonymous. Narcotics Anonymous is a nonprofit organization that assists individuals to recovery from their addiction of using drugs. This type of organization has support groups that express their experiences of using drugs, how it affects the user and those closest to them, and supports each member in the support group to keep from using drugs again, as done in its support group.
This percent rate is far below the national average of over 4 percent. These crimes included one murder, two rapes, eight robberies, 33 assaults, 65 burglaries, 193 property thefts, 37 vehicle thefts, and one
It is common knowledge that the violence rates are always higher in cities than in the rural communities because of the population and poverty, not the media. If an individual goes out and commit a violent crime in either setting because of what they have seen on television,
Crime is usually a big issue because people cannot afford to support their families so they resort to committing
The crime rate seems to be going down each year and fell to 11% in 2013. Ottawa has extremely low numbers of homicides and attempted murders, but has higher numbers of sexual assault. There is some gun violence but it is not a safety concern. Drugs are not a drastic issue in Ottawa either. There are some- as to be expected-
Some of those problems consist of, unemployment, education, police brutality, single parent households, drugs, gang violence, and the high rate of incarceration
Contemporary society is a variety of all things good and bad that one might misinterpret as perfect if glanced upon with a pair of rose colored glasses. While new inventions and scientific breakthroughs, have lead to daily life and communication becoming easier to handle and manage, as a society humanity often times fails to see the adverse effects of these technological pursuits on itself. In the dystopian novel, Brave New World, the author Aldous Huxley focuses a great deal on the idea of technology and control. He does so by grossly exaggerating many of the common technological advances of today and making them seem unrealistic and unbelievable, while in actuality are closer to the truth then far from it. The War on Drugs and Mass Incarceration The United States incarcerates at a higher rate than any other country in the world. In fact, the U.S. alone is home to 25% of the world’s prison population; this, however, wasn’t always the case. The rapid growth of the U.S. prison population can be traced two decades back to the declaration of the War on Drugs by President Ronald Regan in the early eighties and previously mentioned by President Richard Nixon. In an effort to reassure White Americans’ of their elite positioning in the underlying racial caste system in a time where inner-city communities were facing major economic collapses, the Regan administration called for the reinforcement of the sale, distribution, and consumption of illicit drugs,
Furthermore, most of this increase is the result of Chicago 's murder rate increasing so significantly. We are thrilled that crime rates are decreasing, but wish to know what is driving up the murder rates in certain cities. Some experts believe it is due to fewer police officers and/or fewer programs designed to prevent violence. Poverty does appear to play a role in this problem, and the same is true of a rise in gang violence in these cities. With the current administration looking at gun control laws, this may be changing, but no one can say what impact this will truly have.
In today’s society, substance abuse is a serious issue that has many explanations as to why it occurs. Peer pressure, boredom, rebellion, etc., are all common examples of why a person uses drugs and alcohol but there is more depth to it. Individuals will often get blamed or judged on the actions they perform and do not usually think of society itself as a factor. There are relatively stable patterns of social relations that contribute to the values and decisions of humans. Three levels of social structures that surround and permeate us are macrostructures, microstructures, and patriarchy.
Every community has an issue of some sort. My communities issue is not having anywhere safe for kids and teens to hang out. Kids are getting involved with drugs and drinking because that is all that the community offers. We don’t have a bowling alley, or a skating rink, or a dance club, or anything for kids to do. However there are a bunch of bars and parks full of drug dealers!
Crime isn’t too terrible in Minnesota and Wisconsin cities, but there are a few incidents that need or should be looked at in a wider range and how others saw the incident. There is crime everywhere you go, in every city, even in Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin. Crime in the area effects both citizens, police, the community, and the city itself. If a city has a high crime rate, people won’t want to go there. A whole community could be seen as unwelcoming if a few felonies are committed in the area.
No economic opportunities in a community can factor into high crime rates. Drug use and gangs can also factor into this. Other factors may include a lack of family support and a poor education system. 4. Location can be a factor of crime even if key factors are biological and psychological.
