Like religion, sport is big business. To make a point people need to acknowledge that sports make hundreds of millions of dollars in profit each year, whether from ticket sales and corporate sponsorship or from tithes and pledge drives like a religion. As well, like religion, sports feeds people’s seeming need to belong, to be part of a group to create ways to clearly label and categorize and separate oneself and one’s group from the rest of the world. To start, I am Canadian-Korean, and I love living in Canada, but when it comes to football, I am a hard fan of the Korea any time they play. As an avid sports fan, there is nothing

In the article, Soccer: Opiate of the People?, Eduardo Galeano writes about fans passion towards soccer by stating, “rarely does the fan say ‘my club plays today.’ Rather he says: ‘We play today’” (Galeano). Galeano’s statement shows that to fans, soccer is more than just a sport, but a lifestyle. Soccer fans view their favorite teams as their own team and become invested in the sport.
It is impossible to be in this community if one does not understand how the sport is played and the simple rules governing it. For instance, one ought to know the tactics used by various soccer teams, the pattern of play, and their brief histories. In addition to this, one must at least support a soccer team in order for one to fit in this discourse community. Essentially, individuals in this discourse community have a specific soccer team that they support and it is apparent that the sport brings individuals together irrespective of the soccer teams they support. It also provides good memories to last a long time. Studies show that people who attend a sporting event and cheer for their team in a positive way experience an improved sense of wellbeing ("The Role of Social Support"). Research has also revealed that watching sports can have a positive effect, not only on those watching, but on those playing, as well ("The Role of Social Support”). By showing your support for a team, you can help to increase the players’ motivation and inspire them to perform better ("The Role of Social Support"). I still dedicated myself to the game as a teenager, striving to get better every day, not because I wanted to win, but because I cared about the game, I owed it to myself to play to the best of my ability. Even as the sport moved on, I got enjoyment out of it and continued to play, even without a league to play
Participating in sports highlights my ability to work with teammates and focus in difficult situations. I have been captain on my volleyball team since seventh grade and captain on my club volleyball team for the last two years. Each year
One problem that I have faced personally was that I was a bit of an introvert. It was a significant problem for me considering I was not entirely confident in social situations. This all began to change through events that transpired during my freshman year. My family moved to Bentonville, Arkansas, where I attended Bentonville High School for the majority of ninth grade. In an instant, I had transferred from a school with a class size of 250 students to a school that was six times larger, consisting of 1500 freshmen.
Because it makes you believe in yourself, because there are players besides being idols are great people, because the one that plays better does not win, but one that left his heart in the field, because soccer is the only religion that has no atheists, Because if you do not feel the game for soccer you wouldn’t understand it, because knowing that you lost is the first step to a victory, because is a passion that make us happy, because is more than just a game, because no matter the time or the place soccer is played everywhere, because we all dream of making the best move or the best goal in a match, because there is nothing else cuter than winning, because even if we lose we always have a rematch a second chance, because it is the sport in which your friends can become enemies and enemies can become friends, because nothing is said until the end of 90 minutes, because it takes more than talent to succeed, because there are players who leave everything on the field, because it is a passion that lies in our hearts, for such a simple object as the ball can make millions of people happy, for this and more soccer is the most beautiful sport in the
Soccer has kept me off the streets, it keeps me focused, maintaining agility, stamina and a side of aggression. The feeling I get when playing soccer is indescribable, the wind in my face, the crowd cheering me on..most importantly the goal - soccer relates so much to my everyday life it’s taught me teamwork and keeping myself healthy and sharp. The one person I look up to is Lionel Messi #10, the jersey that I so proudly wear every game, his motivational words, his enthusiasm really drove me to get that number and one of my favorite quotes of his would have to be “the day you think there is no improvements to be made is a sad one for anyone.” this quote is important to me because it’s a quote with such a powerful meaning, telling me that even though you may THINK you can’t get better, or do better something pushes you inside to do much greater things and I’m still learning as I go. You could ask any one of my friends or family members how much soccer has became a part of me, I want to have that name “Destiny Scott” affiliated with soccer it’s become second nature to me, soccer is a major part in my life and it has made me into the person I am
You feel relaxed when you're with your friends, and when you're doing something that you enjoy doing. However, one side reasons why sports bring many together and connect is maybe they might want the same goal at the end to win a event or make a meaningful memory with others. By participating in a sport, or multiple sports, it can have a positive impact on one’s

In a community, members choose to associate with, or connect to each other. However, it is only when we take a step back from the activities in our life’s, do we recognize reality and witness the social interactions that occur around us every day. The overarching purpose of this assignment was to go out into the community on two separate occasions to observe the social interactions- paying close attention to evidence of social networks, excluded or exclusive communities,
Not only can sports unite countries around the world, but they can also bring individual sportsmen and women together as a team. Sport allows team mates to form bonds that teach them to function as part of a whole, which is also a worthy skill to have in life. These bonds formed sometimes not only exist during the game but off the field as well. Sports can bring strangers
For me football is a way of life not just a sport. It’s a gateway to peace and unity. Growing up as a kid in St. Catherine Jamaica I was considered privileged to some. Why? Most would say it’s
