Showing us that she would have been hit with a left hand, as Tom's left hand doesn't work, unlike Bob Ewells, signing his name with his left hand. It is also shown when Atticus is speaking about the jury, “A court is only as sound as its jury, and a jury is only as sound as the men who make it up” (Lee 8). The jury is known to run the court, and what the jury has on their mind will counteract the case. As it is in the book, the jury is made up of racist country men that believe Tom is guilty whether he's proven innocent or not, no matter the points that have been brought up by Atticus showing Tom's innocence. Atticus also uses the rhetorical term pathos in his statement.
Atticus Finch and Juror 8 both have strong opinions about what they believe in because of the fact that they are both debating in a courtroom and must be very vocal. Atticus is a lawyer, and he is defending someone who is on trial for possibly their entire life. This leads Atticus to be very outspoken and representative for not only Tom, but also for what he believes in. In this case, he is trying to get the jury to believe Tom Robinson, and he states, "I'm no idealist to believe firmly in the integrity of our courts and in the jury system—that is no ideal to me, it is a living, working reality. Gentlemen, a court is no better than each man of you sitting before me on this jury.
Atticus is also a very selfless person. Atticus made sure tom was going to be okay by staying at the jail with him. “Atticus was sitting propped against the front door.”(Lee 201). It shows that Atticus would sacrifice his time to make sure that Tom Robinson would be okay. Atticus also doesn 't like guns and would not shoot one unless he had to.
The characters in To Kill a Mockingbird and the people involved in the trials have many similarities, including similar backgrounds, actions and personalities. On March
both The Crucible and Twelve Angry Men, there are characters that equally stand for and are motivated by truth and justice. In Twelve Angry Men Juror Eight embodies reason and attentiveness. He refuses to “send a boy off to die without talking about it first”, much to the initial dismay of his fellow jurors. He rejects the idea of agreeing with the eleven other jurors just to make the process more efficient, and in doing so he rejects conformity. He has reasonable doubt and asserts that “no jury can declare a man guilty unless it’s sure”.
In the jury during the case¨’Atticus was showing the jury that Tome had nothing to hide¨(Lee 225). This supports the claim because Atticus is truly fighting for Tom. He was doing everything possible to prove that Tom did nothing wrong. Throughout this paragraph Atticus proved to the people in the jury that he was not scared of what they though of him. Atticus is being courageous with being a stong and brave person to defend poor insist Tom
He seems in a way relatable to William Golding’s character, Simon, in The Lord of The Flies. Simon is seen as a sort of christ like figure, and while Juror 8 isn't anywhere near that level, he does seem to portray a sort of thoughtfulness and compassion that Simon does as well. All of the jurors are affected by peer pressure in different ways, and how they are effected is important to the
In the story of To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus is one of the crucial characters in the story and playing a critical role in the courthouse scene. The version of Atticus from the film seem to be more calm, yet nervous in the scene to stating his last statement to the court. For example, in the cross examination when Atticus asks Bob Ewell to write his name down, Atticus says that in a calm yet intimidating tone. When Bob does write his name Atticus can be seen with a suspicious look. As for the book scene you can’t really see that, you can only read it for yourself and image it your head.
Why did Atticus defend a black man? Justice and being given the chance of a fair trial. Atticus Finch believed that everyone, black or white should be given the chance, to be proven not guilty. Even though some people thought Atticus was wrong in defending Tom Robinson, Atticus knew it was right to defend Tom because he knew everyone deserved a fair trial.
Atticus Finch is a smart, passionate man looking to do what’s fair and what it takes to turn the heads of others, for not only a good way but influential way too. TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD By:Harper Lee Is a good classic novel made on July 11, 1960.This novel is about a middle aged man with two kids named Scout and Jem Finch. Running for Office by Lanson Carson shows how challenging it can be to run for office. He states points such as, you will not have privacy, and it cost lots of money and time and takes several people to run a small campaign. I agree with Lanson as if you are not prepared and up to the challenge of running for office and you are going to fail. I know this because in the passage it says, "it is by no means an easy task. You can't reasonably expect to simply "throw your hat in the ring" this shows how demanding it can be and not effortless.
Although Atticus thought that he educated them valuable lessons, the children would not able to understand what Atticus was trying to teach them because of their ages. Also, when Atticus punished Jem, Jem would feel unfair because he tried to protect and defend his father. (Rebuttal) Even though Jem tried to defend Atticus, Atticus should punish him because ruining and destroying the other’s properties is a wrong behavior. Also, Atticus has responsibilities to guide Jem in a right way. If Atticus just forgives him and let him destroy the yard, then Jem might think that causing problems are fine if he was supposed to protect someone.
Through this remark from Juror 8 we see that he shows some compassion for the defendant. Having the ability to show compassion for others Juror 8 and Atticus
They are more likely to side with Juror eight because he acts nicer and speaks to them with a kinder tone. Overall, Juror eight has a more effective way of getting the Jurors to vote
Atticus and Calpurnia: Contrasting Characters with Similar Purpose What characteristics could connect two astoundingly different characters? In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch has a level-headed and just personality, whilst his family’s cook, Calpurnia, is strong-headed and critical. Although differences in their characters set them apart, what brings them together is their equal, passionate love and care for the Finch children. Through different methods, both Atticus and Calpurnia make positive impacts on the children’s lives through lessons, lectures and experiences.
