Everyone is tested in their lifetimes to find out who they truly are and what they’re capable of becoming. Someone may believe they exist on one end of spectrum but truly they exist in a grey era that is undefinable. Batman as a moral character is one note and his contemporary Harvey Dent maybe equally so. As an unknown man terrorizes their city, the two men’s interiors surface and Harvey Dent’s interior self is more ambiguous to where are he lies on the scale of justice. The Dark Knight is the Christopher Nolan’s tale of Batman and Harvey Dent pushed to the limit of who they are and what they are beneath the surface.
Both Batman and Harvey fight a major mob syndicate in Gotham City, Batman with his mask on the streets and Harvey as the District Attorney. In fact the two show more than affinity for justice as they are both vying for the heart of Rachel Dawes. Harvey as of that moment though is in the lead for the affection of Rachel as they work together in the courts to put a major mob boss on trial. Batman and Harvey are two sides of the same coin and they balance each other as the Dark and White Knight’s of Gotham City. As the two begin roll in the business of crime fighting and locking up criminals, a madman known only by the name of Joker begins playing with the city of Gotham for his entertainment. As major political players begin to die; Harvey Dent is at risk but he perseveres and continues his good fight. Rachel is threatened and Harvey seemingly leaves the fate of a joker goon to fate as he flips a coin but is stopped by Batman who lays out his own “no killing” policy. The Joker is caught and during the interrogation he reveals that corruption in the police department has lead to Harvey and Rachel’s capture and placed in separate gasoline rigged warehouses.
