As online schools become more and more popular, a question forms in the minds of many--what are the differences between online schools and traditional brick and mortar schools? Although brick and mortar schools and online homeschooling are similar in many ways, they have many distinct differences such as quality of education, level of socialization, and lifestyle. There are many different factors to consider when choosing the type of education someone would want. It is important to consider all of these factors before making this very important decision.

Every morning for five days a week, students have to get up early, catch the bus, and go to school. They learn whatever subjects were assigned that day in the order that the school mandates. In contrast, online homeschoolers can set their own schedule; an online homeschooler can choose to work early or late or both. Online homeschoolers possess a freedom that brick and mortar students lack. Online students can be much more mobile learners. As long as the student has a laptop and Wi-Fi, he/she can attend school from anywhere. Online homeschoolers require a higher level of self-motivation and discipline.
Although there are similarities between online homeschooling and traditional brick and mortar schooling, there are many differences including, but not limited to, the quality of the education, the opportunities for socialization, and the structure of daily life. Each family must consider these differences and choose which form of schooling best suits their needs.
