The Battle of Fort Sumter was the first battle of the Civil War and involved the Confederate and Union States. Today, Fort Sumter is most famous for being the site of the first shots of the Civil War. The Battle of Fort Sumter marked an new spot in history.
The Battle of Fort Sumter started on April 12, 1891 in Charleston, South Carolina. Fort Sumter was a military site in Charleston Harbor and was part of the Confederate territory. Before the war started, people in the South didn’t vote for Lincoln and many slaves hated him because of his view on them. Lincoln said during a speech to the public that he would not let the nation become two countries. On April 12, 1891 at 4:30 am the first shots were fired from the Confederate States. The people of the Union fought long and hard hoping for a victory. On April 15, 1861, Lincoln sent 75,000 volunteers to suppress the southern rebellion. What was this battle about? The Battle of Fort Sumter was about a nation that was split into two. The people of the Union were people who liked Lincoln as president. The people of the Confederate States were people who did not agree with Lincoln’s beliefs and ideas.
