Even though the Bible and Parable of the Sower are literary and not scholarly text there are multiply examples in the text where Lauren and Jesus have similar characteristics, because they both have similar characteristics is it easy to compare and contrast the different techniques they use to survive in their "new" world.

Lauren just like Jesus is a prodigy. The definition of a prodigy is “a person, especially a child or young person, having extraordinary talent or ability” (Dictonary.com). While reading Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler it is evident that the novel is similar to Christianity. Even though Jesus was spreading the beliefs Judaism not Christianity the belief of Christianity is about Jesus just as Earthseed and Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler is about Lauren. The title itself relates to Christianity since the Parable of the Sower is a story in the bible. Butler cites the Parable from the bible in Luke 8:5-8

In verse 5/12 the seeds that fell by the way side would be Keith. While he lived in the community he was taught the Baptist religion but never cared for it, so it was not surprising to read what did to survive outside of the walls. In verse 6/13 the seeds that fell upon the rock would be Joanna, Laurens best friend. She was willing to listen to what Lauren had to say however after sometimes told her parents due to her fear. In verse 7/14 the seeds that fell among thorns would be Cory. She was so worried about her husband killing people rather than knowing that what he was doing was keeping the community safe. In verse 8/15 the seeds that feel on good ground would be Laurens Acorn community. They were willing to learn the new word as well as teaching others of Earthseed
