Even though the Bible and Parable of the Sower are literary and not scholarly text there are multiply examples in the text where Lauren and Jesus have similar characteristics, because they both have similar characteristics is it easy to compare and contrast the different techniques they use to survive in their "new" world.

While reading Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler it is evident that the novel is similar to Christianity. Even though Jesus was spreading the beliefs Judaism not Christianity the belief of Christianity is about Jesus just as Earthseed and Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler is about Lauren. In verse 5/12 the seeds that fell by the way side would be Keith. While he lived in the community he was taught the Baptist religion but never cared for it, so it was not surprising to read what did to survive outside of the walls. In verse 6/13 the seeds that fell upon the rock would be Joanna, Laurens best friend. She was willing to listen to what Lauren had to say however after sometimes told her parents due to her fear.
