“Eyes on the Prize” focused on the civil rights movement in the United States. Some events that took place are: the 1955 murder of Emmett Till, the 1955-56 Montgomery Bus Boycott, and the 1957 Little Rock Nine. The prize was freedom, peace, and equality. The prize was obtained.
In the Story To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom Robinson, an African American is blamed and killed for something that was not his fault and had nothing to do with. But in the report of Emmett Till he was killed for something that he did do. Emmett Till was accused by a white lady for whisling at her later on got beaten to death and his body thrown in the river. Tom’s lawyer, Atticus Finch had a lot of supporting evidence that proved that Tom did not rape the woman and everyone had just disregarded it because whether he did it or not, they could not let a black win over a white.
Emmett Louis Till, nicknamed Bobo, was born on July 25, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois. Till was raised by his single mother, Mamie Till, and never knew his father, due to the couple’s separation and his father’s untimely death by execution. At the age of 5, Emmett caught a severe case of polio but made a full recovery, leaving him with a somewhat noticeable stutter. Growing up, he spent the majority of his days taking care of the house while his mother worked long hours balancing two jobs. He attended the all-black school of McCosh Grammar School.

Looking forward to a visit with his cousins, Emmett was ecstatic and was not prepared for the level of segregation that would occur in Money, Mississippi when he arrived. Emmett was a big prankster, but his mother reminded him of his race and the differences that it caused. When Till arrived in Money, he joined in with his family and visited a local neighborhood store for a quick beverage.

In 1955 in Leslie Millhams barn Emmett Till was dragged from a ford truck and the next thing a whip sound pierces the starry night. And a strangled cry from Till rings out from the barn. The men drag Till back to the truck and throws him into the bed of the truck and blood starts to trickle out of the bed of the truck.
Emmett Till did not live a very long life. He was 14 years old when he was killed. He was born July 25, 1941 and died August 28, 1955. Till’s murder was the action that pushed forward the civil rights movement. Born in Chicago, Illinois he was an only child to Louis and Mamie Till He never knew his father, who was a private in the army during World War II.
14 year old Emmett Till was going to see relatives in Money Mississippi, on August 24th 1955 when he allegedly flirted with a white cashier at a grocery store. 4 days later, two white men beat, caused major injury, and shot him in the head. The men were adjudicated for murder, but an all-white, male jury cleared them of any wrong doing. Till's murder and the open casket funeral spurred the developing Civil Rights Movement.
