1- The group I choose is the Palestines. 2- The location of the Palestines is Arab, West Bank, Israel, and Jordan. 3- The population of the Palestine Ethnic group is about six million. Language: The Palestinians official language is called Arabic. In the U.S.A. people say hello by giving a handshake. For the Palestines they greet each other by saying marhaba which means hello. The language is a semitic language. Semitic means relating to or denoting a family of languages that includes Hebrew, Aramaic, Arabic, and Arabic. Before the 1900s it was white or blue, usually to knees but sometimes to the ankles. For working men it was tied at the waist with a leather belt. These belts also served a practical purpose and held a range of equipment. The sleeves were tied back with a cord. The sleeves were quite narrow for village men but large and triangular for Bedouins. Prior to 1930s, village men wore several layers of headwear which consist of a white cotton skull cap then white or grey felt cap then soft, rounded tarbush maghribi with a tassel. Dance: The Dabke is the most popular dance of the Palestinians. It consists of people who form a line that can be expanded as new dancers join the moving chorus. The movements of the line are led by lawith, a dancer who leads and initiates changes in the line formation, and who is followed by a chorus. The dance involves movements up and down in space and includes rhythmic stomping, clapping, and changes of pace. There are breaks created by individual dancers performing solos and the group response to them. Dabke has a deeper meaning than just a dance. It is the people’s way of telling a story through movement, and for many, a way to show solidarity and cooperation, cultural resistance, and the strength of the human
