The story Beowulf is a phenomenal story. However, the movie Beowulf portrays the story to be something it is not. The movie transformed the book from a legendary tale to a drama filled om-com/action movie. The killings were more gruesome and detailed. Beowulf was not as heroic as he was in the book. He was just as much a part of the drama as anymore else in the story. The movie could be a rom-com because of Beowulf’s less than normal attraction for women. The movie, Beowulf, was very different from the book because of the weakness for women, more graphic killings, and Beowulf’s low heroic qualities. Beowulf’s weakness in the movie was attractive women, while the book never mentioned a maiden for him. Particularly, towards the beginning of the story Beowulf was called out on a sea race he lost. He lost the race because he was side tracked by a mermaid, who he did not resist. After he killed Grendel he set out to kill his mother, but instead of killing her he slept with her. As a result, Grendel’s mother has a son by Beowulf. In fact, Beowulf was so obsessed with women that he cheated on his loyal queen with a young woman. His almighty, heroic traits stated in the book seemed to vanish in the movie. For one, Beowulf was a liar. As stated before Beowulf lied about killing Grendel’s mother and what happened at the sea race. Instead of coming off as confident and brave like in the book, he came off as cocky and arrogant. That’s something coming from someone’s whose “victorious battles” didn’t happen as told.
