Beowulf was a heroic epic that was told by The Anglo-Saxons when they were in large gatherings. They sat and told the story just for entertainment. Back then there was not anybody who could write it down. The story was just told person to person and passed down from generation to generation. Everybody knows that the story most definitely is not the same as it was years ago. Finally, somebody was smart enough to write down the story. Then after the story there was a movie. I do not like stories and movies about the same topic because there is always so many differences. One major comparison was the different themes. Loyalty was Beowulf’s guiding virtue. All of his actions are based on loyalty. One example, is when he went and helped the Danes. Beowulf traveled to help the men from evil. He promised them that he would kill Grendel. Also bravery in shown. Beowulf takes it upon himself to “seek out that king, the famous prince who needed defenders. He took it up on himself to help the Danes out. Nobody could face the monster. There is also strength that is shown, just like any other hero. Strength ruled in this world and not many influenced it. Because strength was one of the many traits that these people admired, in Beowulf, time and time again, the poem stressed how its hero, Beowulf, was the strongest of all men, and like him there was no equal for, “There was no one else like him alive. In his day, he was the mightiest man on earth, highborn and powerful” (Beowulf, 196-198). So all in all, Beowulf’s strength was like a one of a kind. The courage drives Beowulf to the resistance of this king. Although he was well aware of the possibility of death, he was willing to risk his life to prove himself to the rest of society by taking on this
