To Americans, America is a normal, basic country. America is an argumentative and feeling country with debates around every corner; yet somehow it retains a respectable air for a majority of the time. However, to people who live outside of America, the idea of what America is or could be differs entirely.
Nonetheless, I believe that to be an American means to have freedom, equality, and knowledge.
In Derek Bok’s essay, “Preparing for a Career,” Bok challenges that idea that liberal arts and vocational training are world’s apart. Instead, he gives a different point of view that maybe the two fields of study are two sides of the same coin. While getting a professional education is important, job training is just as or even more so important. However, job training on its own has its drawbacks as well, so combining the two has merit. Philosophy, creative arts, humanities, etc.
As an American citizen, I am aware of my rights. I am very thankful for my rights and I am genuinely grateful for the people who served to give me those rights. Over the years, countless wars have been fought for equal rights and freedom. The freedom not just for our country, but for many others too. To emphasize, rights, equality and having a strong government is very important.
What is America to you? Democracy is what first would come to mind, it is the core value of what America stands for. Being democratic has given the United States of America a title of a leader of change by its people. Recent survey information from local University of California, Santa Barbara students, the millennials feel as though the democratic system is up to our values with improvement of representation toleration in our nation.
.America is the land of opportunity to many individuals. It gives people a chance to become who they really desire to be. That idea though, is not always true. What sometimes occurs is that people who want to become a true American make themselves believe that the only way to do so is by becoming powerful and losing the morals that they were taught. What has been ingrained in much of society is that if one does not do one of those things they are lesser than the ones who do.
Dear fellow nasty women and bad hombres, America is one the greatest experiments in freedom and liberty history has ever known. We are a nation that was built on the minds and ideals of immigrants. Our Founding Fathers created America so that everyone could have a chance at "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". Those are aspects of my country, I would never change because they are what make us unique. The glow of America casts a ripple of hope upon those who struggle.
What does it meant to be american? In america we might have conflicts like diversity, political problems, and more. America also has some amazing aspects to it we have freedom. With us having freedom that means that we can believe in any religion, have freedom of speech, and much more. In america we have a great military, army, and marines.
In my country of origin Togo, we don’t have a lot of freedom and you cannot protest against the government without fearing for your life or get prison time. Here, in the contrary, the Freedom of Speech is a Fundamental Right to every citizen. Anyone can express themselves without fearing the government retaliation.
