The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a book that is loved and adored in modern day literature. The most important themes displayed in the book are The American Dream, and Love/ Affairs. Two of the most important characters in book are Nick and Daisy. Nick and Daisy are important because they display the discernment of wealth in the 1920s. Wealth is a very important aspect in The Great Gatsby because wealth, back then, showed one’s social status. There are two movies made for The Great Gatsby; one in 1974 and the other in 2013. These two movies both do such a great job of displaying some characters, themes and plot points, that it is hard to choose which one depicts the book the best. The movies, since made in different time periods, display each theme from Gatsby in a different but also interesting way. Although the 1974 movie depicts the great Gatsby in such a detailed way, that was not the point of the book. The point of the book was that Nick was an observer, not a partaker, in the events that led up to Gatsby’s death, and the 2013 movie pinpoints this well. …show more content…

In this part Fitzgerald does a terrific job of showing the splendor of Gatsby. Nick describes the scene with metaphors like: “The flowers were unnecessary, for at two o’clock a greenhouse arrived from Gatsby’s, with innumerable receptacles to contain it,” And similes like: “‘Nobody’s coming to tea. It’s too late!’ He looked at his watch as if there was some pressing demand on his time elsewhere. ‘I can’t wait all day.’… He sat down miserably as if I had pushed him, and simultaneously there was the sound of a motor turning into my lane. We both jumped up and, a little harrowed myself, went out into the yard”
