In the text the chosen and the beautiful told from jordans point of view, the narrator uses words to show how awkward gatsby is being. When daisy firsts arrives, gatsby runs outside into the ran ruining his nice suit and the knocks on the door looking all rubbish. The text states"He looked, I thought, like nothing so much as a cat who had endured a wetting in the garden, and now only cared about getting inside"(Vo 1). Jordans sees that when gatsby arrives at the door his is the complete opposite of himself, he is all wet, doesn't look nice, and is standing at the door waiting awkwardly there. In the great gatbsy, Nicks point of view is also very similar to jordans, when he sees gatsby at the door he sees how wet and unflattering gatsby is just standing there. In the text it shows " Gastby, pale as death, with his hands plunged like weights in his coat pockets, was standing in a puddle of water glaring tradgically into my eyes"(Fitzgerald 2). In Jordans p.o.v in this moment it is very awkward and everyone is just staring. But when gatsby goes to lean over and knocks over the clock jordan is not pleased by this she thinks this has made it worse. The text shows this by " I cringed, anticipated the crash, but gatsby caught it again, he held the clock in his hands for a moment, muttering an apology"(Vo 1). Jordan is seeing the clock falling as a bad thing that it is weakening the apparence of gatsby, that in that moment this is making him look bad. Though, in fitzgeralds naroration, he has nick being relifed by gatsby breaking his clock that it was old anyways, and it broke up the tension, The text states " Luckily the clock took this moment to tilt dangerously at the pressure of his head, where he turned and caught it, and set it back to place"(Fitzgerlad 2). The narrator makes this scene seem less choatic and bad on gatsbys part rather than Vo's naroration where the scence is frantic and gatbsy is making the moment worse. In this nick sees this as a good break in the moment, to give it a rest from all the tension going
