The Great Gatsby: Compare and Contrast The Great Gatsby is an infamous book written by F. Scott Fitzgerald around the 1920s. It is about a man who tries to gain the American Dream, while obtaining the “Golden Girl.” However, no matter how hard he tries, he will never get the things he wants. The Great Gatsby was made into a movie in 2013. Although the movie contains many similarities as the book, it also contains many differences. The movie and the book were the same in many ways. Tom already had a wife, but still wanted more from other women. Daisy was already very rich, but was still trying to use Gatsby as a way to achieve more money. Another thing that remained the same throughout the book and the movie is the meaning of the green light. The meaning of the green light represents Gatsby’s unattainable dream to obtain his old love, Daisy. This can be seen in the book when Nick says, “Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter — tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther . . . .” (Fitzgerald 180) It can also be seen in the movie, where the green light is shown over and over, along with Nick restating that it was meant for Gatsby’s desire for Daisy (The Great Gatsby). These two examples show that the meaning of the green light is Gatsby’s desire for Daisy throughout the book and movie. Another thing that remained the same was that it was clear Gatsby will never fit in with people like Tom and Daisy. This is clear throughout the book and the movie by placing the three characters
