Why do we take risks? We have two choices in our lives. First, we can keep on doing what we are doing, with no change, or we can take risk to potentially achieve a greater reward. We want that outcome so much that we are willing to take monumental risks. Lily and I are both similar, yet very different. We both have people in our lives who guide what we do, so that can have the opportunity to succeed. On the other hand, Lily had a dark past that haunted her throughout the book, but I have had a very bright and loving childhood. Despite our backgrounds, we both have activities that we love and that we can turn to if we are having a hard time. We are both supported by people we love, even if that love took a little longer than expected to obtain. Lily creates beautiful relationships with many different people on her journey to find a home. I have had people in my life who have been there from the beginning and those who presented themselves to me later on in my Earthly experience. “ All this love coming to me. I didn’t know what to do with it. I wanted to say, I love you too. I love you all. The feeling rose up in me like a column of wind, but when it got to my mouth, it had no voice, no words. Just a lot of air and longing”, (Kidd 243). Lily didn’t have these people in her life when she began, but after a lot of time she found people who loved her more than she had felt. In a way this can apply to me. For the first ten and a half years of my life I didn’t know who my grandpa was. He and my mom lost contact when she moved away and created a family. In the summer of 2011 my mom has us send letters to my grandpa and that was the beginning of our close relationship. We met soon after that first contact and we have a strong relationship still today. Lily found people who loved her as much as they would their own
