Within the field of sociology, it is important to discuss the ways in which people have communicated and interacted with one another over the years and how the structure of society has played out. This includes the essential topic of inequality and how certain groups are oppressed and deemed lesser than others. Two main sociologist who cover ground on these groups are W.E.B Du Bois and Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Du Bois is known for his work describing the frustrating experience African Americans endure by being labeled a “problem” by society, creating the concept of the veil and double consciousness. The works that both sociologists have contributed are necessary to fully understand all spectrums of the field because they both relate to the same thing, how society functions and with that we can compare the writings of each, showing that although there may be some similarities, there will also have their differences, but that is what makes each have their own form of significance.
