Lewis and Clark’s expedition was a bit different from Pike’s. While Lewis and Clark were exploring the northern part of the Louisiana Purchase, Pike on the other hand was exploring the southern parts. Throughout Lewis and Clark’s expedition they were able to make a connection with the native tribes. By becoming friends with the Natives this showed Lewis and Clark the land that the US would start moving into. During their expedition they cataloged 108 botanical and zoological specimens, 68 mineral specimens, as well as Clark’s map of the US.
Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led one of the most significant and popular expeditions of American history. It all started with the large purchase of the Louisiana territory in 1803. The purchase consisted of about 828,000,000 square miles of land. President Thomas Jefferson initiated the exploration of the newly purchased grounds and the land over the "great rock mountains. " There were high hopes for what the expedition would find along the way.

After the treaty for the purchase was made, Jefferson issued an exploration of this new land. Jefferson ordered that his personal secretary, Meriwether Lewis, an intelligent and skilled man, be the leader of the expedition. As his personal assistant, Lewis selected the help of William Clark.

When thinking of this expedition, most forget that many people accompanied Lewis and Clark. Each member had important jobs and roles that may have drastically increased the aqusition of knowledge. There were even cases of incredulous misbehavior with appropriate punishments, and of course, along the way deaths occurred.
Two years after the Louisiana Purchase Lewis and Clark went on an legendary expedition. They came across animals that they have never seen before. They crossed huge rivers. They explored miles of land in the Western United States. They crossed 15 states, and started in Camp Wood near st. Lewis Missouri.

President Thomas appointed Meriwether Lewis, the private secretary of the president, to be the Commander of the Expedition. Lewis also asked his close friend William Clark, who Lewis had served with in the army, to help him with the expedition and he actually named Clark the co-commander of the expedition. Generally speaking, the expedition had a significant impact on American history.
The Lewis and Clark Expedition spanned 8,000 miles over the course of three years, taking the Corps of Discovery, as the expedition party was known, down the Ohio River, up the Missouri River, across the Continental Divide, and to the Pacific Ocean. Throughout this expedition, Lewis, Clark, and the Corps of Discovery faced nearly every obstacle able to be imagined. They braved dangerous waters, fatigue, hunger, disease, and severe weather conditions. Along the way, Lewis kept a detailed diary of everything they encountered from different plants to animals. Clark also drew detailed maps of their surroundings along the entire exploration.
Thomas Jefferson had just bought the Louisiana Purchase and was extremely curious about the culture, landscape, and people living in that region. He sent a letter to Meriwether Lewis, his private secretary, asking him to discover the lands that he had just bought. Lewis took the responsibility and took along with him his close friend. William Clark. The expedition was commissioned by Thomas Jefferson and the some U.S. Army volunteers accompanied them.
Lewis and Clark were not the first ones to travel the west. Indians, of course, have already been everywhere in the west, “trappers and traders had already covered the land before the Corps of discovery,” (). After they came home, Lewis and Clark failed their primary mission. Jefferson told them to find a water route across the continent , but “they discovered the water transport from coast to coast was impossible,” (). The mission was a failure, because it produced nothing useful.
Lewis and Clark made vital contributions to Missouri and to the United States. When they returned home they were greatly rewarded. They were given a great amount of land, a large paycheck, and jobs. Lewis was named the governor of Louisiana. Clark got the title of Brigadier General of Militia and Superintendent of Indian Affairs.
It will make them believe that what Lewis and Clark did was truly a life threatening and dangerous expedition but also a trip of excitement and captivating landmarks. The author shows the readers pictures of the same landmarks and trails that the two explorers endured on their adventure as the authors try to recreate the same one. In the book the authors use dates, maps, journals, and several other materials to take the same expedition that Lewis and Clark did. Their goal was to make readers aware of all the excitement and hardships they had to accustom to and undergo. On several pages throughout the book the authors have placed pictures of the maps they used, landmarks, the terrain, and the animals they came across throughout their venture.
Thomas Jefferson decided to organize some expeditions to explore the new land. Lewis and Clark was the most famous expedition. They both traveled up to the Missouri River and all the way to the Pacific Ocean. In 1804, is where it all began, President Jefferson asked Meriwether Lewis to explore the lands west of the Mississippi River but also with the Louisiana Purchase. Meriwether decided to choose William Clark as his co-leader for the expedition.
Thomas Jefferson had dreamed of exploring the West for a long time before he had even become President. In 1783 he had asked Clark's brother, George, to take on the challenge of exploring the Louisiana Territory. After finally purchasing the Louisiana Territory, Jefferson asked, his secretary of state, Lewis to go on the journey. Lewis was very intelligent and trustworthy, and after being given specific instructions and properly trained, he began the expedition on August 30, 1803 in Pittsburgh PA. William Clark would then offer to join Lewis on the expedition weeks later on October 13 at Camp Dubois, which is now in present-day Indiana.

The modern expedition was set in 2003 and was symbolic and educational. They both traveled westwards for a specific purpose.
